Highlights of the meeting

On January 18, 2003 the A.O.T.C. held its first annual Winter Educational meeting in Martinez, CA at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital. This meeting was generously sponsored by M-Pact Worldwide.
After the Continental Breakfast, sponsored by M-Pact Worldwide, the meeting kicked off with the "Opening Remarks" from Jack Hart, President / A.O.T.C.. Jack introduced the attendees to the N.A.O.T. and the A.O.T.C. and gave us an overview of the scope of practice of an Ortho. Tech. This  was our first winter update and our first trip to the bay area. I would like to thank everyone who got up early and came to the meeting. I am sure it was well worth your time. We even had a student, Nancy Chow, from Frank Perreault's Orthopedic Technichian class in Anaheim, on board to get her hands on some additional experience. The day was a casting and splinting workshop from beginning to end with plenty of students on hand to take advantage of the opportunity. Upper and lower extremity casting and splinting was demonstrated, throughout the day, by Jack Hart, A.O.T.C. President. After every demonstration the attendees broke up into small groups and everyone got to put on 3 or 4 applications of each cast or splint demonstrated. Thanks to a large donation of products by M-Pact Worldwide there was never a shortage of casting or splinting material.
Lunch was served at 12:15 p.m. and consisted of sandwiches, chips, fruit, and soft drinks, donated by M-Pact Worldwide. The afternoon was a splinting workshop. Jack showed us a lot of his tricks and gave us numerous tips on casting and splinting, including the "Sponge Bob Square Pants" splint, you should have been there! It was a very informative update indeed. Thanks to Rich Belcher and the other "Old Hands" for helping with the execution of the first of many more Educational Updates to come. If you don't see yourself in any of these pictures it means "you weren't there".
